For us here at Behind the Thrills, theme parks quite frankly are more than just a vacation, or something fun to do. It’s a way of life, a lifestyle if you will. The same can be said about gamers. For them it’s more than just turning on the console and playing a game. It’s a lifestyle, something they build their worlds around. On this week’s edition of Behind the Thrills we talk to someone who wants to take the two lifestyles and bring them together in an all out assault on your senses.
Our guest this week is Daniel Ruke, one of the founders and developers of Game Nation, a proposed theme park that will bring the world of games to life.

In the original film TRON a person gets sucked into the computer itself and is pitted against computer in a game that turns into survival. In Game Nation, the situation is somewhat the same as you are living the game. Your choices will determine the outcome of the ride or attraction. It’s what Ruke hopes will set the park apart from other parks. At other parks you are but a spectator, put on a path that always ends the same, and you always win. But at Game Nation, you can win, but you can also lose.
Much like how Walt Disney World is it’s own world, separate from the rest of the outside world, that’s one of the goals of Game Nation. A huge sprawling park complete with hotels, and a lifestyle not only for vacation. While one of the key markets will definitely be the tourists on vacation, if you don’t want to leave, you won’t have to. Ever! Game Nation hopes to be the place for those who aren’t into the golf courses and shuffleboard courts, but those who need a place to park their flying car.
While it’s still a few years out, we talk to Ruke about some of the challenges, expectations and even get a few details on what we will see when Game Nation opens.
