Haunt season 2011-Must see haunted attractions and shows

The most wonderful time of the year isn’t filled with sparkling lights, snow angels and singing chipmunks for some people. For those wonderful well adjusted freaks (like me) the most wonderful time of the year is filled with chainsaws, killer clowns, ghosts, goblins and blood…oh yes…there will be blood. Starting September 23rd, the most wonderful time of the year begins for all of us haunt freaks.

With that in mind, we have a list of our “Must See” Haunts for 2011. These haunts range from the big haunt events such as Halloween Horror Nights all the way to the home haunts and haunts that you might find off the eaten beaten path.

Dark Harbor

The Queen Mary is a floating museum and hotel in Long Beach California. It’s a historical site, as the ship was once a trans-Atlantic ocean liner that steamed it’s way around the world. It held the likes of Fred Astaire, presidents, and more. Today it’s a hotel and tourist attraction in California, but in 2010 it became a dark and sinister place. 2011 the tradition continues with Dark Harbor, a haunted event that pits you against five mazes. The event boasts three on ship mazes, and two onshore mazes, featuring monsters and flames! The event will also have live bands and more.

Scarehouse

Located in downtown Pittsburgh, The Scarehouse is consistently rated as one of the top haunted attractions in the U.S. Three houses make up the madness this year with the all new “Pittsburgh Zombies” the 3D dance party “Delirium 3D” and the demented carnival folk of “The Forsaken”.  Gore, scares and in your face zombies that you don’t want to miss. Check out the official website for more information and tickets.

Spooky Empire

The biggest haunt convention in the South East brings you more celebrity guests, more independent films, and more gore than any other haunted attraction out there. In it’s 9th year it shows no signs of slowing with guests ranging from the entire cast of “Killer Klownz From Outer Space” to horror mega author Clive Barker and of course legendary Malcolm McDowell.

For tickets and more information, visit the official website.

Horror Weekend

For those who can’t make it to the forsaken land of Florida, this haunted convention will give you ample doses of gore, guts and celebrities who have made your skin crawl for decades. This year’s guests include David Naughton, Sid Heig, and Diamond Dallas Page…plus many many many more.

Haunted Hotel

One of San Diego’s Big Three haunted events, the haunted hotel offers guests the chance to roam through rooms inspired by Nightmare on Elm Street, Legion, Shutter Island and more. Zombies, maniacs and more when you step on the “Hellevator”.

For more information including tickets visit the official website.

Bennetts Curse

Another attraction given top honors consistently, Bennetts Curse gives guests three haunted attractions including “House of the Vampyres”  ”Sanctuary of Insanity” and “Zombie Kingdom 3D”. This is Baltimore’s Premiere haunted attraction, and combines great scareactors with cutting edge technology to scare the hell out of guests.

For more information or tickets, visit the official website!

Field Of Screams

This haunt, among many others, proves that Pennsylvania is just full of messed up people! People in PA have come to expect a lot out of this top rated haunt and they get it this year with three attractions “Den of Darkness” “Frightmare Asylum” and “Haunted Hayride”. Three attractions aimed at making you wet yourself.

For more information or tickets, visit the official website.

Haunted Appalachian Caverns

This year the funhouse is anything but fun as you come face to face with demented clowns in the actual freaking caves of Tennessee! Two demented stories, one in the caverns and one in the campgrounds.

For more information including tickets, visit the official website.

Radley Haunted House

A local favorite, the Radley Haunted House in St. Petersburg has been screwing up locals for years. It’s put together by local actors with new themes every year. This year promises to be a ton of fun.

For more information including where to purchase tickets, visit the official Facebook page.

Night Terrors

Jacksonville gets haunted with three attractions in Night Terrors. This year’s attractions include “Outbreak” “Madhouse” and “Alchemia”. The event is consistently rated as one of America’s top haunts.

Morey’s Fears

The makers of the ever popular and changing “Ghost Ship” have not only upgraded their signature attraction, but have also brought two new attractions this year built in house by Morey’s Piers. Mariners Landing is the home to “CarnEvil” and “Cornstalkers” where seemingly fun attractions will turn into devilishly evil nightmares.

For more information, including tickets, visit the official Morey’s Fears website.

We hope you have an amazing haunt season, and check out not only these haunts, but as many haunts as you can find! If you wish to submit your haunt reviews and pictures, send an email to staff@behindthethrills.com

Happy Halloween!
