New FastPass technology tests begin at Disneyland

According to our friends over at Inside the Magic, Disneyland has began testing new FastPast Technology in small groups today. The test began Monday at Space Mountain and was originally thought to be testing RFID scanners and Magic Bands.

Update 10-20-15

A representative from Disneyland has reached out to us today to expand on the testing that is taking place at Disneyland. The test is simply to measure the efficiency of the barcodes and a new barcode reader vs. the current system of having an employee manually check the FastPass return times. Disneyland occasionally runs tests like these, and there could be more popping up in the park at other attractions in the future. At this time, the test has nothing to do with Magic Bands or FastPass+.

That seems to put this rumor to rest for the time being. The implementation of a more efficient Fastpass system would be wonderful in cutting down excess wait times for popular attractions such as Space Mountain. It should be noted that even though this is just a test for a new system, does not mean it will come to fruition. the test is simply that, a test.
