Bates Motel has retold the story of Psycho icon, Norman Bates. We all know what happened in the Alfred Hitchcock classic, and we know exactly where the show is going. Getting there has been all the fun. Friday, during the panel for Comic Con in San Diego, it was revealed that the final season would see an iconic character check in to Bates Motel…and if you know the movie, you know she never checks out.

Marion Crane, originally played by legendary Jennifer Leigh, will be checking in. You remember Marion Crane don’t you?

It was that shower scene and that music that helped to make Psycho the hit it became.

So who will take the reigns and end up dying in the shower? It’s rather unexpected, but still an amazing choice. None other than Pop Superstar, Rihanna.

It was revealed in a video announcement during the Bates Motel panel on Friday

“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate,” said executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin.

Additional announcements included: Vera Farmiga to executive produce and return in her Emmy-nominated role as “Norma” after her epic death in the final episodes of season four. Max Thieriot will make his directorial debut and Nestor Carbonell will direct for a third time. Finally, Freddie Highmore will write his second episode alongside executive producers Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse. “Bates Motel” will begin production this fall in Vancouver and will return for an exciting final season in 2017 on A&E.

Personally, this is inspired casting, and a great way to end the series on a huge note, as millions of her fans will surely tune in to see how she hands that famous shower scene…if the show actually goes there.
