D23 2017: Star Wars-Galaxy’s Edge confirmed for new themed lands during Parks and Resorts Panels

AT D23 EXPO 2017, DISNEY PARKS CHAIRMAN BOB CHAPEK ANNOUNCES NEW DETAILS OF ATTRACTIONS PLANNED FOR STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE — Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek shared new details and a glimpse inside the two attractions planed for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge coming to both Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif. and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fla. in 2019.

Today during the Disney Parks and Resorts Panel at Disney’s D23 Expo, even more details were released about the upcoming Star Wars Land. The new land is called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and will be the most immersive land to date at any Disney Parks.
“Star Wars Lands will be raising the bar higher than Pandora” was the mantra of the newest details. New concept art was shown for the Millennium Falcon Ride, which shows about six people per ride. The coolest thing is that this is the first big detail about riders that we’ve seen, and it shows off just exactly what we can expect on the new ride. If it’s anything like the concept, then it’s going to be amazing.

As for familiar faces, Rex from Star Tours will be back, this time as a DJ in the Cantina. You’ll also get to see Kylo Ren, BB-8 and Chewbacca in the new land. Hondo from Star Wars Rebels will be on hand to recruit you for flying the Millennium Falcon.

As for the other attraction, you’ll feel like you’re in a Star Destroyer…it’s the biggest scope ride that Disney has ever done.

Both new lands will open in 2019, but Disneyland will open first, with Hollywood Studios happening sometime later in the year. That’s not very surprising, considering what looks like the delays in construction.
There will be tons of immersive characters, and interactions. You could be hunted by Bounty Hunters if you cross the wrong people. While there’s not a ton of new details, we are very excited for the new lands!

We’ll have tons more from Disney D23 in the coming days, so stay tuned!
