Before you can take a step into a real world based on Star Wars, The Void, ILMxLAB and Lucasfilm are all working together to allow you to step into a VR world with Secrets of the Empire.
The new experience will be coming exclusively to VOID Experience Centers at Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort and Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort beginning this holiday season. Guests will step into this all new Star Wars experience, which will place them in a world where they can interact with friends, family and Star Wars characters.
“At The VOID, we combine the magic of illusion, advanced technology and virtual reality to create fully immersive social experiences that take guests to new worlds,” said Curtis Hickman, co-founder and chief creative officer at The VOID. “A truly transformative experience is so much more than what you see with your eyes; it’s what you hear, feel, touch, and even smell. Through the power of The VOID, guests who step into Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire won’t just see this world, they’ll know that they are part of this amazing story.”
The Void has created dozens of immersive experiences around the world, from Ghostbusters and many others. Disney CEO Bob Iger has said that attractions in the parks would not rely on VR, however this looks like a stand alone experience, outside of the parks… so technically Iger is keeping his promise. The two new experiences are expected to open in time for the busy Holiday Seasons at the Disney resorts.
