Warm Butterbeer premieres at Universal Orlando’s Celebration of Harry Potter

When J.K. Rowling wrote about a warm drink that only Wizards knew about, she had no clue the drink would be a worldwide phenomenon. Within the first few months of the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure,  the park had sold more than a million cups of the frozen and cold soda type drinks. However, fans of the books wanted something more authentic…they wanted warm butterbeer as written in the books. The drink has eluded many fans…until now.

During the Celebration of Harry Potter weekend, guests at any three of the on site Universal Hotels can gain early access to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and warm butterbeer. We were lucky enough to have a room at Portofino Bay, and made the trek over on a very cold morning just to sample the drink.

The verdict? Watch the video below for my honest to goodness first sip of the warm treat.

The drink comes in a coffee mug and is served a very drinkable warm temperature.  No worries on burning your tounge. The texture and feeling of the drink is like a nice thick hot chocolate, or latte – without the coffee flavor. The foam is the same cold foam that you get on traditional butterbeer. The contrast between the warm and cold makes it even more delicious than you could imagine. The flavor is exactly the same of regular butterbeer, but it’s the consistency and warmth that wins me over.

This weekend feels very much like a test to see if people will buy it and like it. While it hasn’t been confirmed, we imagine that if the test is successful guests can plan to sip on the warm sweet treat at Diagon Alley or for Breakfast at Three Broomsticks.
We certainly hope so as butterbeer makes for the perfect breakfast drink, and the perfect thing during the sudden afternoon rain showers that are a constant during the hot Central Florida summers.
