Join the rebellion-Star Wars Weekends adds weekend, takes away Hoopla

It’s been decreed by the Emperor himself, that this year Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World will be extended by a week to go all the way into June. The announcement also comes with a price, just as Darth Vader will happen. While the weekend is extending, and there will be nightly fireworks, there is a disturbance in the Force as something will be given the Alderaan treatment, and be blown out of existence.

This year the event will start on May 16th, and go Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays all the way until June 15th. That puts it curiously close to the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s rumored date, just a few days later. It’s also been announced that James Arnold Taylor, who voiced Obi Wan on “Star Wars:The Clone Wars” will be returning as the official celebrity host. Also this year, there will be nightly fireworks as Symphony in the Stars will feature dazzling fireworks set to Star Wars music. Also, there will be a nightly curtain call of Star Wars characters.

However, while the Empire is quick to give you those…naturally Darth Vader must take something away. It’s been confirmed that the annual dance party between the Empire and The Rebel Alliance-Hyperspace Hoopla, has been destroyed. Isn’t it just like the Empire? They lose most every year, so to keep from losing, they blow it up. That’s right, no more Hyperspace Hoopla.

Is this is a good move? For Star Wars Fans, yes, it’s brilliant. The inclusion of the characters in a nightly dance off, wearing ridiculous outfits and spouting stupid lines was sacrilege. However, it was very popular with kids and families. Maybe this is Disney’s way of getting the series back to it’s roots before a new trilogy hits screens in 2015. Let’s hope.

As always, this event will include tons of new Star Wars merchandise with a Disney slant. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as those items are released in anticipation for the extended Star Wars Weekends. Be sure to follow along with us on Twitter @BehindThrills for the latest updates.
