Wreck It Ralph is probably one of my favorite Disney animated films of recent memory. Possibly of all time. It’s got such a heart to it that you didn’t see coming, and a really great story. When Disney announced a sequel to the film, it was both a joy and a worry. Sequels can go one of two ways, and with Disney sequels, it’s really hard to see which way they’re going to go.
At Cinemacon in Las Vegas this week, Disney Animation Studios announced the title and official opening date for Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet.
“We’re so excited to be working with Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz, Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun again, and we have new characters we look forward to unveiling. At the center of this film, as in the first one, is the relationship between Ralph and Vanellope, two once-outcasts, who in each other, found true friendship.” Says Co-director Phil Johnston.
“To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore,” said co-director Rich Moore. “Our production team has been hard at work designing a world that takes something we all think we know – the internet – but shows it in a whole new, imaginative way.”
The entire team is returning, with John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch and Jack McBrayer all set to reprise their roles. The team will take on the Internet, as Ralph and the gang get lost online, and of course…wrecks it. We’ll also see a bevy of video game characters as well, but who knows which ones at this point. With Ralph and the gang going online, it’s likely we’ll see a good list of characters and games from some of your favorite X-Box and Playstation games.
