Universal Studios Hollywood announces new Dreamworks Theatre for 2018

Universal Studios is going full Panda in 2018 as the park rolls out the all new Dreamworks Theatre. The new attraction will feature an all new Kung Fu Panda attraction, which will use 3D film and special effects. The new film will not be your typical 3D theme park attraction. It will use the same projection mapping that the new Harry Potter Nighttime Lights At Hogwarts Castle does. The projection mapping will allow the screen to expand into the theater and extend the action.

Kung Fu Panda will be the first in a string of rotating attractions. Universal will use all of your favorite Dreamworks characters in new films as they rotate them throughout the year. It could also mean that we will see seasonal offerings like “Scared Shrekless” for Halloween and “Merry Madagascar” for Christmas.

Across from the attraction, in Universal Plaza, new photo stops will be set up and guests will be able to meet tons of their favorite characters in person. Kung Fu Panda’s Po and Tigress; Madagascar’s Alex the Lion, The Penguins—Skipper, Rico, Kowalski and Private, and King Julian; Trolls’ Poppy and Branch; Shrek’s Puss ‘n Boots will join existing characters Shrek and Fiona.  The charcaters will also take part in a daily dance party.

The possibilities for new characters and 4D films are endless, as Dreamworks has a huge line up of movies on the horizon.

While this is all great news, it does mean that Shrek will leave the park. Employees have been told that the attraction will close in August.

The new attractions will make their way beginning in early 2018, and you’ll start to see the new characters out this summer.
