If you’re in Southern California and want to know where to find the ultimate doughnut experience for national doughnut day, look no futher. The uber-popular VooDoo Doughnut store based in Portland, OR has just launched a sister store in the heart of Universal CityWalk and it’s got all the wild and wacky creations and pink decor fans have come to expect from VooDoo.
The location has been in soft open mode for a few weeks now but on June 1, officially celebrated its grand opening with the founders in town and all you can eat doughnuts and coffee for press.
A look at some of the offerings found at VooDoo are quite eccentric and unique, making it a perfect fit for CityWalk.
In addition to VooDoo, the location also features a small Stumptown Coffee location, a popular establishment based out of Portland.
“We are beyond thrilled to open Voodoo Doughnut at Universal CityWalk and share our menu of fabulous doughnuts with the world at the top entertainment destination in Los Angeles,” said Voodoo Doughnut founder, Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson.
“The arrival of Voodoo Doughnut to Universal CityWalk coincides with the destination’s ongoing revitalization,” said Karen Irwin, President and COO, Universal Studios Hollywood. “Their unique brand and delicious signature one-of-a-kind doughnuts is the perfect complement to CityWalk’s over-the-top vibrancy.”
Hailing originally from Portland, Oregon by founders Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon, the new L.A. pastry shop serves a range of 60 eclectic doughnuts, including vegan options and the Hollywood Cream, created for Universal CityWalk.
A variety of scrumptious flavored doughnuts are available, such as Grape Ape, Mango Tango, the Voodoo Bubble and Bacon Maple Bar as well as their iconic Voodoo Doll. A popular take-out option, Voodoo Doughnuts are served in signature pink boxes or in a custom-made wooden coffin.
The new location also features another Portland specialty: Stumptown coffee, which brews regularly from the first-ever pink Stumptown espresso machine located exclusively at Universal CityWalk’s Voodoo Doughnut.
Keeping with their longstanding tradition, Voodoo Doughnut helps celebrate marital bliss by hosting weddings ceremonies, complete with a doughnut and coffee catered reception.
The opening of VooDoo is just a small part of an ongoing effort to rejuvenate and expand Universal CityWalk in Hollywood. The past two years have seen a series of brand new and fresh tenants such as LuDo Bird, Dongpo Kitchen, Margaritaville, The new Universal Cinema, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt and soon, Snow Monster will be bringing Boba to the shopping district.
