Disney donates $1 million for Hurricane Harvey relief, announces “Day of Giving”

                             

It’s the worst storm to hit Texas in decades, and the area is still being hammered by rains four days after landfall. Hurricane Harvey stands to be one of the costliest natural disasters in America. On Tuesday, the Walt Disney Company and Texas Television affiliate, KTRK have committed $1 million dollars to Hurricane Harvey relief.

“Our hearts go out to everyone in the devastating path of this historic storm,” said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company. “It’s hard to fully appreciate the impact, in part because it isn’t over yet. But we know thousands of people have lost everything and now face the daunting challenge of putting their lives and communities back together, and we’re using our unique resources and reach to help those in need.”

In addition, the company is going to host a “A Day of Giving”. The day will start in the morning with ABC local affiliates and “Good Morning America” and continue throughout the day on ABC, Freeform, Radio Disney and across all Disney/ABC Television Group social media platforms. Donations made during “Day of Giving” go to the American Red Cross to benefit those most impacted during the hurricane.

Eligible Disney Employee donations the American Red Cross and other eligible organizations will be matched by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.
