New Concept Art revealed for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

It’s been just about a year since The Great Movie ride closed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The replacement, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway didn’t sound too promising, but the more we see and hear, the better it starts to look. Over the weekend, during the grand opening for Toy Story Land, Disney revealed another piece of concept art.

While it’s not much, it does tell us a lot. The new ride seems to feature animatronics, and screens. The ride definitely looks to be a new coaster, but just what type of coaster (besides a train) remains to be seen.

There will also be an all new theme song crafted just for the ride.

Now, let’s speculate a little here, and guess at what we can expect. The ride’s name is a little bit of a hint, “Runaway Railway”. To me that just screams chaos, which is what Mickey Mouse essentially is. He’s innocent, but anarchy seems to unfold around him, especially in the new shorts. While he doesn’t cause MOST of the anarchy, he’s usually a big catalyst for it. With a ride that is supposed to encapsulate that chaos, and a ride that will “take you inside a Mickey Mouse Cartoon”, we’re going to guess that you’ll see a wild little ride.

Animatronics are a definite, along with digital mapping. We wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t see that chaos step into the ride itself. How? Well, maybe like Pooh’s Hunny Hunt at Tokyo Disneyland. That ride takes guests on an adventure, and then splits them up for a segment through the woods. Of course, everyone comes back together in the end for a big dance party. What if Runaway Railway takes that idea and amplifies it? The coaster or ride vehicle is seemingly one piece, but it breaks apart as you go whirling about on separate ride paths, only to be reunited again at the end. There’s three main players in the ride (that we know of)-Goofy, Mickey and Minnie. Three different characters, three different possibilities. It would make for a unique ride each time.

Of course, these are just thoughts and ideas, and nothing has been announced or confirmed by Disney yet.

We’ll find out more about Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in the coming months.
