Six Flags Announces Appointment of New CEO, Departure of Michael Spanos

On November 15, 2021, Six Flags announced that CEO Michael Spanos would be stepping down from his position after two years at the helm of the company. Selim Bassoul, formerly the Non-Executive Chairman of the Board, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer and President of Six Flags. Mr. Bassoul will continue to serve as a member of the Board, and Ben Baldanza, an independent director of Six Flags, and former CEO of Spirit Airlines, has been elected as the new Non-Executive Chairman of the Board.

During his tenure as CEO, Spanos oversaw the construction and opening of innovative rides across the chain, such as West Coast Racers at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Maxx Force at Six Flags Great America, Jersey Devil Coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, and others. Next year, Six Flags theme parks will open more record-breaking coasters, including Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Wonder Woman Flight of Courage at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
