The contract between Nickelodeon and Universal Orlando is ending. Universal Orlando used to be home to many Nick shows as well as Nickelodeon Studios. That time is drawing closer to an end.
From the official Universal Orlando press release
On April 1, Universal Orlando Resort will close the Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast attraction at Universal Studios Florida and immediately begin work on an all-new experience based on an amazing concept. The new attraction will be a natural fit for Universal Orlando and is just one of many exciting things planned for the next couple of years. We can’t wait to share more details with you in the future. Meanwhile, Boy Genius fans will be excited to know that the attraction will re-open for limited periods during the spring and summer before closing permanently on August 18. Stay tuned to www.UniversalOrlando.com and our Facebook page for updates.
So there you have it. No word on a replacement though much is pointing to the surprise hit Despicable Me which is owned by Universal.
But we are hearing a wide response from a similar attraction to a completely different system altogether. Think back to the attraction that was in the building before Jimmy Neutron. The Funtastic World of Hannah Barbara was a pre-cursor to Back to the Future. Would it make sense to get the same ride with just a new layover? All of our sources point to something new for the building altogether. Plus Universal’s own wording gives room for speculation, “based on an amazing concept”. Let’s keep fingers crossed that it’s not just another simulator.
So now we ask what would you like to see?
