It really feels that all of a sudden, Disney has come back to life with several big announcements coming out today. The latest announcement gets a bit nostalgic with a complete renovation of one of Walt Disney World’s first resorts. The Polynesian Village Resort opened in 1971, and has been a staple at the resort ever since. Now the name is going back, but the hotel is taking a huge step forward as Disney announced a huge change, new offerings, and even a West Coast institution.
The Polynesian Resort will once again become Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Big deal, right? It honestly is, as the nostalgia ends at the name. The hotel will get a huge face lift beginning next year.
The resort has stood relatively unchanged since 1971, but next year that will change as the resort gets a re-imagined lobby, big house and pool area.
While details are scarce, the biggest news is that Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is coming to the Polynesian. Trader Sam’s is a favorite watering hole.for many West Coast Disney fans. The east coast version doesn’t sound like a complete replica, but it is inspired by the Disneyland version.
The all new face lift should be completed in 2015, and Trader Sam’s should be ready in early 2015.
