Soccer is taking the US by storm, and especially in Orlando. It should come as no surprise that Walt Disney World will once again host the Florida Cup soccer tournament, for the second year in a row. The event is returning to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in a tournament that promises to be bigger, with more countries and more matches than the 2015 Florida Cup.
The first four teams have been revealed for the 2016 Florida Cup, with many more to be announced. SC Corinthians, Fluminese FC, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Schalke 04 are all slated to compete when Florida Cup soccer returns to the Walt Disney World Resort in January of 2016.
The event had it’s inaugural year in 2015, where just four teams played. Now the event is expanding with a partnership between ESPN Wide World of Sports and 2SV Sports. The event will take place January 9th-21st, with tickets going on sale in September (click here for more details).
Central Florida is fast becoming a soccer capital as Orlando City SC made it’s debut earlier this year. The soccer club was part of the huge Major League Soccer expansion. Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world, and is fast becoming a favorite in the United States.
The Florida Cup will be hosted at the ESPN Wide World of Sports for the next five years, with many of the teams training in Central Florida leading up to the event.
