He’s been a dragon, he’s been Sherlock, he’s soon to be the Sorcerer Supreme, and after that? His heart will be two sizes two small! Universal and Illumination Entertainment announced that they’re all new Grinch film, will star none other than Benedict Cumberbatch. The film also has changed the release date, and will be in line for next year! Now, will Christmas at Universal parks ever be the same?
The Dr. Seuss story has become a Christmas tradition for millions of families. The animated TV special took audiences by storm, and Jim Carey hammed it up as the Grinch in a live action version. Now, the Grinch is once again getting animated, and he’s going to be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch.
The new film will see Pete Candeland and Yarrow Cheney directing Michael LeSieur‘s adaptation of the classic holiday tale, which will open November 10, 2017 in theaters everywhere.
Currently, Universal Orlando has Grinchmas, which was inspired by Carey’s take on the character. The Grinch even has the same voice and snarky attitude. Families can count on seeing the mean one at Universal’s Islands of Adventure this Christmas, and at also at Universal Studios Hollywood.
When this new film hits, will Universal change things up to the CumberGrinch? We’re still a few years off from that, so no worries yet. The new film hits in the 2017 holiday season, you’ll be able to see Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange later this year.
