The popular seasonal Lunar New Year celebration has returned to Universal Studios Hollywood. The popular seasonal event quietly opened this past weekend and we were there to check out the first day! Lunar New Year takes over Universal Plaza with lots of wishing trees and a grand Plum Blossom archway dominating the area.
While the decor is certainly powerful, the character meet and greets are definitely the main draw. In addition to Woody the Woodpecker, Curious Goerge, and Megatron, this year Universal is offering the chance to meet two new characters from their recent DreamWorks’ acquisition. Guests can meet Po and Tigress from the popular Kung Fu Panda series who are in traditional Chinese wardrobe in honor of the Lunar New Year.

Universal also invites all park guests to take part in creating a wish for the new year and adding to their traditional wishing trees.
Located just outside of Universal Plaza is a small food cart offering a few exclusive Lunar New Year items. If you’re feeling daring, you can try one of the jumbo fortune cookies or giant Lard Ladd donut.
That does it for our quick look at this year’s Lunar New Year event. A small but very fun place to meet unique characters and make a wish on one of the trees. We love the decorations as well!
