The 8th movie in the Fast and Furious Franchise-Fate of the Furious hits in April of this year. Next year guests at Universal Orlando will be able to live the action in a white knuckle thrill ride. However, the action will go across the country in an all new touring show that is sure to defy physics and bring you everything that you love about the films to life. Fast and Furious Live will hit arenas in 2018 as part of a never before seen live stunt show.
Universal Pictures has teamed up with Brand Events to create the death defying show, which will feature live cars, massive amounts of special effects, and insane jaw dropping stunts…everything you love from the films.
“In addition to its arrival as a global live-arena tour, the launch of Fast & Furious Live represents Universal’s significant expansion of our franchises into entertainment channels that are as unexpected as they are innovative,” said Vince Klaseus, President, Universal Brand Development. “By bringing our series to audiences in entirely new formats, we are not simply growing brand portfolios, we are delivering incredibly exciting ways for fans to participate in the worlds our characters inhabit.”
“Fast & Furious Live will transform the live-entertainment industry in the same way the global box-office franchise has redefined the action genre,” said Carol Nygren, Vice President, Worldwide Live Entertainment, Universal Brand Development. “Fans will experience everything they love about the films in an up-close and incredibly cool live show, putting them in the center of the action.”
Executive producers Chris Hughes and James Cooke-Priest, along with writer/director Rowland French, are the team from Brand Events who previously created and toured Top Gear Live. “We’re incredibly proud to announce our partnership with Universal. Together, with a groundbreaking show, we will be bringing Fast & Furious to life in arenas around the world. This is set to be the most spectacular live-automotive production in history,” said Cooke-Priest.
If this show is a massive success, Universal and Brand Events could dive into their film vault to make more live action shows that could tour the world. The huge shows and events are usually reserved for theme park shows and attractions, where guests have other options. Fast and Furious Live could bring that level of detail to cities all around the globe, where they don’t have to travel to a theme park, and are given one main event show.
What could we see in the show? Given that the film series is known for some high octane stunts, we could see any of the massive events from the films. Here’s some that we would love to see.
- The tank fight-A small mock up bridge that hosts a full sized tank blasting cars from the road
- The Vault Heist- Cars ripping through the city with a massive bank vault tied to the bumpers
- Skyscraper jump- I don’t know how they would pull this off, but the stunt from the last film would be amazing. Maybe a series of small towers, and some well placed ramps. The ridiculous stunt from the film was amazing, and might work on a smaller scale
- Bridge Jump- Again, smaller scale.
The amount of stunts, and types of stunts really depends on how big of a budget the show is going to get. Hopefully we get the things we love about the movies.
Universal Orlando is currently working on a new version of Fast and Furious Supercharged for their park, which will be a full stand alone ride. Universal Studios Hollywood already has a version of the ride, as part of their tram tour, which opened in 2015.
