With the news of the Blue Man Group being bought by Cirque du Soleil today and now the question that will be asked is what does that mean for Orlando?
Cirque du Soleil and Disney have had a long relationship going back to 1998 during the time that Walt Disney World was rebranding what was at the time called Downtown Disney now called Disney Springs. While the Blue Man Group has been partnered with Universal Orlando going back to 2006 with the announcement of the Orlando Residency at Universal Orlando Resort taking up the former Nickelodeon Studios space. With these partnerships and the merging of the two companies, what does that mean for Universal and Disney?
Well, the Blue Man Group is staying at Universal Orlando with the latest announcement, it is currently unknown if Cirque du Soleil will do any changes at the Blue Man Group residency. Only time will tell at Universal Orlando what the future could hold for the Blue Man Group residency.
However at Walt Disney World for the future of Cirque du Soleil is coming fast with the closure at the end of the year of La Nouba. As we have previously reported with the purchase of the Blue Man Group, rumors have been circulating that a new Cirque du Soleil show is coming. Rumors also include that there will be a temporary Cirque du Soleil circus show taking up residency in the surface level parking lot later next year.
As of late March, that Cirque du Soleil was in negotiations with Walt Disney World with Daniel Lamarre, president, and CEO of Cirque du Soleil being quoted in an Argentian interview that Cirque is “going to have a new show.” Cirque du Soleil wants to create a tribute in the show to Disney’s Animation. It’s possible that the tribute to Disney’s Animation could be done as a full show that is an entire tribute to Disney’s Animation such as their tribute show to the Argentinian Rock Band Soda Stereo in Argentia. However, the plans for this tribute are only in the preliminary stage.
It would not be the first time that any Disney Characters were at Cirque du Soliel’s Orlando residence but it will be the first time that they would be incorporated into a show. When La Nouba celebrated its 15th Anniversary, before the show they had a special visit from Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Mickey and Minnie appeared for the first time on the Cirque stage, to congratulate the La Nouba artists and crew on the 15 year milestone. However, only time will tell what the future could hold for both residences that Cirque du Soliel now has in Orlando.
