PhotoPass is an amazing way to catch your Walt Disney World memories. You simply take your picture, scan and go. Photographers are always very helpful, and usually work to get the best shots of you and your family, especially when it comes to character photos. In 2019, Disney will see nine character locations become fully automated with automatic cameras that capture your memories, instead of the PhotoPass photographers that now man the character stations.
The first location will be Tinkerbell’s greeting location at The Magic Kingdom.

Multiple cameras will be used in each character location. While it seems like a bad change, the automated cameras will mean that you have more pictures to choose from. The downside is that you and the characters will have to be in the right spot and be looking at the camera. In theory, it could cut down on wait times.
While automated cameras do mean less Photopass employees for characters in those nine areas, there will still be over 100 locations that will still use Photopass Photographers.
Disney says that the first automated cameras will roll out officially in Early 2019, with the rest to follow at the remaining locations at a later date.
