Here at Behind the Thrills, we love us some Theme Parks. No doubt about it. However, there is a great big world out there, and sometimes we need to take a step out of the parks and look at something else. Join us as we take a look outside of the world of theme parks and into the world of movies, music, television, hotels…pretty much anything else we happen to stumble across.
However whatever we look at will have some relation to the theme park world, granted not directly…but in a round about sort of way.

This week’s Offsite Adventure-MAMA

With that said, I personally am very interested in this film as it doesn’t look like your typical horror movie. In today’s age audiences tend to flock towards the slasher flick, and everyone leaves new ideas at the door. Benicio Del Toro produced this film, and has brought it to life from a short film. It’s a ghost movie, and a monster flick. It looks like atmospheric as hell, and seems like it could immerse you into the world it brings to life.

Ok I’ll admit that based of the trailer I was going into this one with low expectations. I never cared to see this one especially after seeing the “Evil Dead” trailer before it. All of my excitement was towards the amazing bloody-disgusting podcast, who got me in an advanced screening. I’m am truly great-full and had a great time.
What’s it about? So this movie is about 2 little girls raised in the woods by a supernatural being they call “mama.” The girls grow up like wolves and get adopted by their uncle and his wife. It sounds stupid but the way the girls crawl around and the way mama looks is badass. I loved the effects in this movie. The sound effects were chilling and brilliant, so was the acting. On another good note there was plenty of pop up scares that made me jump like a girl. Now to the bad side.
To start off it was hard to truly understand why the girls were in the woods in the first place. I might of missed it, but its still a mystery to me. Secondly the end was beyond crappy but I feel like it had to be done. Third, I feel like they show too much of the antagonist. I feel picky but it did bother me quit a bit since I love mystery behind evil. And last there is a scene that uses no cgi and it shows. Trust me you will notice what I mean. I usually like when they use old school effects, but not after 95% of the movies scary scenes are cgi.
Ok so bottom line should you see this or not? Absolutely, If you go in with low expectations like myself. High expectations? go see it but remember as fun as the middle is the end will kill your buzz.
