Busch Gardens Williamsburg rolled out a brand new tour just in time for Christmas that’s perfect for a DIY’er or just someone who’s interested in learning a little bit about what goes into bringing the beautiful arrangements around the park to life. The Holiday Decoration Creation tour not only allows you to learn a little bit about the landscaping team and how they put arrangements together, but you get a short walking tour of the park before Christmas Town begins and you get to create an arrangement of your own to take home.
The Holiday Decoration Tour is approximately a two hour tour. Before you get your hands dirty with making a creation of your own, you are given a tour of the France and Germany sections of the park to see the creations that the landscaping team has created for the park. The landscaping team does an amazing job with the arrangements in the park from the greenery in the park for Christmas Town all the way down to the flowers you see planted through out the park. This tour gives you the opportunity to put your green thumb to work with a little bit of help from the landscaping team at Busch Gardens.
After the walking portion of the tour, you’ll head right for the green house to make a creation of your own to take home.
Meet Millie Holloway! She is the greenhouse manager and designer for all of the arrangements around the park. She was one of our helpful and extremely knowledgeable tour guides, along with Philip Wagner, the landscape manager. Millie is more than willing to help you create your arrangement during the tour, so if you’ve never created one before you won’t feel lost or left behind.
We aren’t much of a DIY’er ourselves, but I think our arrangement turned out pretty nice! Busch Gardens provides you with everything you need: a pot, soil, and various pieces so you can make an arrangement that will suit your likings. You can select items and then build your arrangement from there. You take each piece and put it into the pot as you’d like and if you change your mind or run out of pieces, you can always get more.
Busch Gardens will hold two tours per day on days that Christmas Town is open. Tour times are from 9am – 11am and from 1pm – 3pm. Because this tour is before Christmas Town begins at 3pm, you don’t need to purchase admission to Christmas Town to participate and you also don’t need to pay for parking. You will actually be directed to park in the employee lot for the duration of the tour.
The tour itself is $30 ($27 for pass holders). Slots on each tour are limited to roughly 5 people per day per tour, so if you’re interested in booking the tour, you might want to go ahead and book it before slots start to fill up.
