Moats and Mine Trains make room for new developments at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

New Fantasyland is on the verge of being complete, but there’s just a few more things. Namely there’s an all new coaster, themed to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and of course the newly announced courtyard. This week we take a look at the new construction around the Magic Kingdom and a bit more.

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster continues to move along…on track, as the opening date has to be getting close. We’ve been hearing around the end of April for an opening date, with soft openings happening in just a few weeks. However, that would leave the soft opening right smack dab in the middle of the busiest Spring Break season, so it’s a little iffy at this point.

Meanwhile, in front of Cinderella Castle, the moats have been drained and the work has begun on bringing an all new courtyard. The new courtyard will bring more viewing areas for things like shows and fireworks as well as gardens. It will complete the new Fantasyland construction…we hope.

One fun thing that always astonishes, is the amount of detail that’s put into some of the craziest things. Take for example the Disney Vacation Club office, located right inside New Fantasyland. The area blends the architecture of the area, with characters from the attractions.

Sketches of characters, and things you may find from the world of the Little Mermaid can be found all over the office. While it’s designed to sell you on the idea of magical timeshares, this is just one small detail that we love about the parks.

Filming also wrapped up for ABC’s The Middle, which took over to film the season finale at Walt Disney World. The show filmed at Magic Kingdom, and EPCOT for the last episode of the season, which will air in May.
