Huge Updates at SeaWorld San Antonio as park opens for 2019

With SeaWorld San Antonio reopening for their 31st season, guests found themselves seeing many new surprises across the park. It seems that over the winter break, SeaWorld rushed to transform many aesthetics of their park, resulting in new sights around every corner.

Before guests even enter, new signage over the parking toll booths advertise the different parks one can experience at San Antonio. This aesthetic continues to the front entrance, where the iconic arches stand adorned with beautiful blue borders. Practically all of the buildings were repainted in a bright yellow and blue aesthetic, with pictures of animals one can meet during interactions swimming outside The SeaWorld Store. In addition, SeaWorld added new signage pointing toward the 3 different parks and their unique attractions, plus new landscaping around the plaza.

But one of the biggest sights is Ihu’s Breakaway Falls. This drop slide towers over the plaza. It appeared as though the tubes were finally connected, and the blue slide even seemed to have water testing. This huge drop slide prides itself as being the tallest in Texas, so you don’t want to miss it when it opens March 9th!

A few new attractions were already opened for the 2019 season. Shamu Express has been rethemed to Super Grover’s Box Car Derby, where a train of cars themed to different Sesame Street characters race around. This launch coaster is a great addition to Bay of Play as the first credit many coaster lovers can earn. The new coaster color scheme and train design is very similar to what guests can expect at SeaWorld Orlando when Super Grover’s Box Car Derby opens at the all new Sesame Street Land later this Spring. The good news, is that if you were a fan of the original coaster, it hasn’t changed, and is still the same fun ride it always was.

With SeaWorld San Antonio reopening for their 31st season, guests found themselves seeing many new surprises across the park. It seems that over the winter break, SeaWorld rushed to transform many aesthetics of their park, resulting in new sights around every corner.

Shamu Emporium was also rethemed to Emporium Gifts. Similar to Shamu Smokehouse’s retheming, Emporium goes all in on a comfortable country store feeling. One can find plushies of your favorite animals, as well as listen to episodes of Sea Rescue.

SeaWorld still has many projects in process. One thing I was not expecting was the renovation of Sea Star Market into Pretzel Kitchen similar at SeaWorld Orlando Coming in April. Of course, the big attraction is Turtle Reef. It appears that glass has been installed, and concrete has been poured for the walkways and ramps. I could not see any pieces for the two flat rides yet, but its easy to imagine the location. Interestingly enough, the flat rides seem to be a call back to the opening of SeaWorld San Antonio, when they had a few kiddie rides where Wavebreaker is today.

A few things to note are the small details. SeaWorld has now opened the back area of the Animal Ambassador Center, where guests can take an up close look at umbrella cockatoos, black and white ruffed lemurs, and even african crested porcupines.

This area is nearby Steel Eel, which is getting a brand new coat of paint. The track is remaining yellow, but the support structures are transforming from gray to bright purple. We’re not sure exactly what the final colors will be, but it definitely looks like purple and possibly yellow, but we’ll see in the coming weeks.

Shamu stadium has also been renamed to Orca stadium, and was only showing Killer Whales Up Close. Don’t worry though, your favorite theatrical shows will return this spring break!

In the next few months, SeaWorld San Antonio will be opening many new attractions. With the balance in both animal exhibits and thrill rides, this park has something for everyone, and we look forward to see where the future takes them.
