Roy Edward Disney, born January 10, 1930, passed away today (December 16, 2009) at age 79. He was a longtime senior executive for the company, Walt Disney Company, founded by Walt Disney and Roy Oliver Disney. At the time of his passing, he owned approximatley one percent of disney’s shares (more than sixteen million shares).
Roy E. Disney played a big part in The Walt Disney Company as he worked as an assistant director producing films in 1954 until 1967 when he become a member of the Board of Directors. Ten years later, he resigned from the company, but retained his seat on the Board of Directors until 1984 when he resigned. He later returned to work for the company again in the future after many management changes took place.
Roy E. Disney passed away at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, California, during a fight with stomach cancer. He died at the age of 79, barley missing his 80th birthday. Walt Disney passed away on December 15, 1966, just a day (and many years) before Roy E. Disney. Our wishes go out to Mr. R. E. Disney and his wife, Leslie, and his four children.
