Universal Studios Hollywood is getting Despicable in a big…Super Silly Fun way. It’s already been announced that Despicable Me:Minion Mayhem is coming to Universal Studios Hollywood. However, Universal Studios Hollywood announced today via Facebook (click here) that not only Despicable Me would be coming to Universal Studios Hollywood, but so would Super Silly Fun Land!
The official message via Facebook:
Minions love Hollywood! Despicable Me Minion Mayhem & Super Silly Fun Land – coming Spring 2014!
*UPDATE! Later in the day Universal Hollywood released a press release going into a little more detail about what’s to come to Super Silly Fun Land:
Directly adjacent to “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” will be “Super Silly Fun Land,” an elaborate activity zone inspired by the memorable pierside park featured in Despicable Me. A colorfully themed water play area will delight guests of all ages with a multitude of fountains, water dumps and splash pools. Nearby, a dry play zone will invite guests to climb, crawl, jump and slide – while a themed ride will soar and spin guests aboard a fleet of imaginative ride vehicles for a view of “Super Silly Fun Land.”
Based on recent construction pictures it’s clear that Universal Studios Hollywood is getting a massive budget for their version of the ride, which is already a huge hit at Universal Studios Florida. The addition of Super Silly Fun Land now confirms that the entire area of the park will become a mini-minion land possibly consisting of a gift shop, dining location, meet and greet area, Minion Mayhem itself and now a carnival games/play area based on the theme park that Gru and his daughters visit in the film.
The new mini-land will likely be where the old Coke Soak zone was, since constructions started that area has been completely gutted and expanded recently.
With the addition of the new press release, long story short Hollywood’s Minion Mayhem will open with with a similar layout, ride and queue wise to Orlando. Super Silly Fun Land will include a gift shop, dining location, a new water play area, a dry play area, and a flat ride. Despicable Me 2 hits this year, while a spinoff “Minions” film will hit theaters next year, leaving guests wanting to experience what it’s like to be a one in a Minion.
