Concept art gives first look at Jurassic World-Could a theme park redesign be far behind?

It’s not the welcome to Jurassic Park that we’ve come to know over the past 21 years, but it is breathtaking. The fourth film in the Jurassic Park series is set to hit theaters next year. Rumors suggest that the theme park that mixes dinosaurs and man would once again strive, and be as intended, on an island off the coast of Costa Rica. There has also been slow rumblings that once the film comes out, guests could expect to see a change in the real life Jurassic Park at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure. Now comes some concept art that shows just what that world might look like.

According to the International Business Times (click here) concept art for director Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic Park sequel-Jurassic World has been found online. Nathan Schroeder is a renowned artist who has worked on such films as Pirates of the Caribbean, X-Men and many others. The artwork gives us a look at what is clearly an all new theme park, that will be showcased in the film. The theme park is where millions of guests flock yearly to get a glimpse at the giants that once ruled the earth, and despite the early attempts by John Hammond, is very successful at not getting people eaten… but that’s no fun for a film, so things will obviously go wrong.

While we wait for the next film to come out, let’s talk actual theme parks. Jurassic Park has come to life at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure. The area is designed after what the book describes, and what the original film brought to life. It brings out a very organic feel, using the surrounding vegetation and blending in with the area. This new concept art goes away from that aesthetic, instead looks towards what we’re currently seeing in places like Dubai and Japan. It’s decadent, it’s new age, it’s shiny…It has a monorail!

Currently rumors are persisting that Universal is getting ready to not only add a King Kong attraction in the area, but also do a complete overhaul of many of the major attractions in the Jurassic Park area. Could we see something similar to this when the curtains are pulled back? We’ve already talked about what we could see in a revamped Jurassic Park (click here), is this what it could look like?

The area is currently home to Jurassic Park River Adventure, in which a boat veers off course, and you’re left to face down a T-Rex (yes, they have a T-rex!) before plummeting down to safety. It also features a restaurant, a Discovery Center mock up and even a kids play area. The Discovery Center houses an egg hatchery, and dated (although fun) exhibits about dinosaurs. The kids area is one of the most immersive play areas in any theme park, and takes kids through jungles, mines and geysers. There’s even a kid coaster that takes kids to the top of the canopy and has them soar like Pteranodon. Could this new area incorporate a monorail, and a huge water area for some fun dinosaur water tricks? TIME…that ever flowing river…will be the only thing to tell.
