Treasure Cove and new Pirates attraction coming to Shanghai Disneyland!

During the D23 and Shareholder conference call on Tuesday, Disney dropped some good news…but also a little bad news for Pirates fans. The bad news first…Pirates of the Caribbean 5 has not been given the greenlight yet. The good news, a huge new Pirates themed land has not only been given the greenlight, but is well under construction at the all new Shanghai Disneyland! What’s even more, there will be an all new Pirates adventure in the land, unlike anything seen before. So, who’s got the rum mate?

In a surprise move, Bob Iger made the huge announcement about the all new Treasure Cove, which will be the very first time that Pirates of Caribbean has served as inspiration for an entire land. Not a whole lot was said about the new area, or what else besides a huge E-Ticket attraction could be expected, but judging by the concept art, it looks like a huge possibility that we will see more than just a Pirates attraction.

The attraction will also be a first for a Disney park, this will not be a clone of the original Pirates of the Caribbean, but an all new adventure that will showcase the adventures of characters from the films and the other rides globally. It’s confirmed that Captain Jack Sparrow will be part of the new attraction, along with Davey Jones. The new attraction is promised to feature new technology and innovation, while still being a boat ride. Rumors suggest that the boats could tilt in many different directions, as well as spin, to provide unique experiences.

No other major attractions were announced for the area, but guests may be able to paddle their own boats to the new cove, and there’s speculation that the new area will feature an interactive pirate ship, as well as an expanded version of the interactive Pirates Adventures that is in place at Magic Kingdom.

Shanghai Disneyland is expected to open in December 2015, and will be larger than Hong Kong Disneyland.
