Pixar’s animated film Cars has made a huge impact at Disney Parks. From the inclusion of the characters in parades, and stunt shows, to a high speed adventure at Disney’s California Adventure, Cars has proven to be something that kids go crazy for. Those, however, have one thing in common. They aren’t actual cars. Sure, Radiator Springs Racers are fun, and you do get to go fast, but there’s something to be said about actually going fast in a real life Car from the film. Now kids have the chance to feel what it’s like to race in the Piston Cup as the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World Florida rolls out their Cars Jr. Piston Cup ride along.
The all new experience is open to racers aged 6-13 and gets them on the track with actual cars designed by Jay Ward, creative director of “Cars”.
And these aren’t just regular cars that have had eyes slapped on them…no #80 Sage VanDerSpin races for Team “Gask-its” and is the youngest winner of the Junior Piston Cup Pro Series. Aiken Axler is the #28 Nitroade racer who captured the Vitoline Rookie of the Year honors in his first full season of Cup competition. So these are actual cars from the world created by Pixar.
“We’re thrilled to have Sage and Aiken join the Richard Petty Driving Experience team and know they’ll provide a truly magical element to our popular Junior Ride-Along program,” said Chris Kirby, Petty Holdings director of marketing. “Jay did an amazing job bringing these two characters to life in the form of two full-sized, high-performance, 600HP race cars.”

Racers must be 48 inches tall, and do three laps with a professional driver in specially fitted cars. The cars have built in head and shoulder protection, so the little racers are completely safe. The experience begins at just $59 dollars, and is a must for all little racing fans.
