By ErikAug 07, 2014, 18:13 pm
World Elephant Day is Saturday August 12th, but guests can celebrate it in a special way at Busch Gardens Tampa this Saturday, August 9th. The Central Florida theme park is the home to several different elephants, and is a huge supporter of conservation projects all over the world. This weekend, guests will not only be able to learn more about Elephants, and what they can do to help, but they’ll also be able to have some amazing experiences.
Busch Gardens Tampa will be celebrating World Elephant Day on August 9th. The goal of the day is to bring attention to the struggle that Elephants in the wild have all over the world. The animals have been hunted very close to extinction for their ivory tusks. Despite the best efforts of officials, illegal poaching, and the devastation of their natural habitat, Elephant populations in the wild are at an all time low.
So this weekend, Busch Gardens is helping to spread the word about World Elephant Day with fun and informative ways to get you involved.
Here’s some of the fun:
Trainer Talks and More at the Animal Care Center
The state-of-the-art Animal Care Center will be the hub for World Elephant Day activities with interactive displays and trainer talks from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The animal care team will share and demonstrate how they care for elephants, and guests will have an opportunity to help create enrichment activities!
An Evening with the Elephants
From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., guests can join trainers for an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience, including an up-close look at Busch Gardens’ elephants and indulging in appetizers and specialty drinks while trainers share stories about elephant conservation and caring for these magnificent animals. The evening is limited to guests 13 years of age and older. Busch Gardens admission is required but not included.
The Busch Gardens Conservation fun has helped fund over 700 projects around the world, including 10 elephant conservation projects in Asia and Africa in 2013 and 2014.
