Tokyo Disney Sea to open Finding Nemo attraction in 2017

The Oriental Land Company announced on Tuesday that they will be working with Pixar animators to bring the world of Finding Nemo to life with an all mew submarine based attraction. The all new attraction will be based on characters from the Finding Nemo series, and will mix motion based with fluid animation.  The new attraction is scheduled to replace StormRider, and will be scheduled to open in 2017.

The all new attraction will put guests in a special submarine where they will be shrunken down to “fish size” and will then journey along with Nemo, Dory and Marlin, as well as some of the other gang. The ride will last about five minutes, and looks to be very similar to Star Tours and the upcoming Iron Man attraction. The new ride will cost the park about $5 Billion Yen ($42M), and will take over the StormRider attraction in the Port Discovery section of the park.

The ride will also use the production staff of the new Pixar Film, Finding Dory, which hits theaters (and probably breaks records) in 2016. The new ride will most likely mix characters and storylines from both films.

This isn’t the first time Nemo has made theme park appearances. The Sea with Nemo and Friends is featured prominently at Epcot, and the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland. There is also the Crushes Coaster at Walt Disney Studios in Paris.
