We have just reported that Walt Disney World’s Star Wars Land will begin construction in 2016 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It appears that because of that, a rich family tradition will come to an end as The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights will have their final show this year. The park will have a huge send off this year, with tons of lights, and a great way to experience them, but when Christmas is over, so is the tradition.
This shocking news comes from the official Disney Parks Blog ,as they announce that the 20th year of the lights will also be the final year.
The event goes off with a big send off, as the Dancing Lights will be the centerpiece of two upcharge experiences.
The Merry & Bright Dessert Party (Nov. 6-Dec. 30) and the Merry & Bright Dinner Reception (Jan. 1- 3) will both revolve around the Osborne lights, and will be available to book on September 16th.
Both will offer a great selection of food and snacks, and a great seat for the light show.
The show itself will be discontinued as the park ramps up construction on Star Wars Land, and Toy Story Land, both announced earlier this year for the park.
The display began in 1995 after the display gained national attention. Jennings Osborne started the display for his family, which grew every year until his neighbors took him to court. Disney offered the family the chance to bring the display to the park, and it too grew.
If we had to guess, we would say that while the display may shutdown, and no longer be part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we are willing to bet that we will see it pop up somewhere else on property.
Epcot could very well get the display, on the path to World Showcase. Magic Kingdom could also get the display along Main Street, so there is room for it. Time will just have to tell on this one.
