The Final Fantasy video game series is celebrating 30 years since it’s first release in 1987. In 2018 Universal Studios Japan will kick off their annual Universal Cool Japan on January 11th, and the centerpiece will be the all new Final Fantasy XR coaster. The coaster will use VR to bring the world of Final Fantasy to life.
The park and Square Enix will also be celebrating the home platform release of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT on January 11th in Japan, and Worldwide January 30th.
The ride will take riders through the world of Final Fantasy, with the visuals actually being designed by Square Enix. The ride will take guests on an airship ride, with a 360 degree view as the soar along the coaster. To make it even more authentic Yoshitaka Amano made a logo, the original graphic designer of the game’s logo.
Final Fantasy XR kicks off on January 11th, and will run until June 24th of 2018. The coaster will join “Detective Conan” and “Monster Hunter” at Universal Cool Japan, and Sailor Moon later that spring.
