Knott’s Scary Farms comes a rapping at your chamber door with the first haunt announcement of 2013

It will be a midnight dreary, that will have you ponder weak and weary over many mazes full of scary guts and gore. Never will you go a nodding, nearly napping, when a ghoul will go to tapping, sending you a running, screaming for the exit door. Suddenly you’ll go a tripping, as a chainsaw starts it’s ripping, shredding sending your blood dripping, dripping across the haunted maze floor. Knott’s Scary Farms will add a new collection of the macabre to it’s Haunt 2013 line up this year, with a maze based off of the stories of the “Father of Gothic Horror”, Edgar Allen Poe.

It came from Facebook on a stormy Monday afternoon…okay, enough with the prose. Knott’s Scary Farms has announced via their official Facebook page (click here) that they will be bringing the world of Edgar Allan Poe to life with their all new maze Forevermore. The maze will be designed by Knott’s maze designer extraordinaire, Brooke Walters, who created Haunt favorites, “Terror of London”, “Virus Z”, “The Doll Factory” and “Trick Or Treat”. The location will be where Terror of London has resided the past 4 years near Mystery Lodge. This location is extra special to Knott’s for having the largest layout at Halloween Haunt allowing walk through to last up to 10 minutes even with light crowds, which means guests will likely be descending not only the stories of Poe but the world through his eyes… with a twist.

Here’s the official word from Knott’s:

KNOTT’S SCARY FARM 2013 MAZE UPDATE

From Brooke Walters, the creator of The Doll Factory and Trick-Or-Treat, comes a new chapter in terror:

“FOREVERMORE”

Follow in the footsteps of the darkly troubled writer Edgar Allan Poe through a nightmare conjured up by a modern madman. Each of Poe’s bloodsoaked and terror-filled tales will envelope you in their insanity and horror. Page by page you will descend deeper into the subconscious of the man who invented American horror.
Forevermore is gothic horror with a modern day twist.
Will you escape?
Or will you remain in the horror Forevermore…?

Forevermore will be behind Mystery Lodge for Haunt 2013, home to former classic mazes Terror of London, 13 Axe Murder Manor and Blood Bayou.

See you in the fog….

Last year during Haunt, we caught up with Brooke in the fog, to talk about what she goes through every year to bring the mazes to life. While she doesn’t give up anything about this year’s haunts, she does get pretty detailed about how the whole process comes together for her.

Check Brooke out:

Edgar Allan Poe was a dark and demented individual. The more into madness he slipped, the darker his stories were. He met an untimely death that most contribute to his madness, and alcoholism. While Forevermore will be Knott’s own take on the madness of Poe, it’s not the first time that a haunt has tackled the Father of Gothic Horror.

In 2011 Halloween Horror Nights Orlando took on the dark world of Poe with “Nevermore:The Madness of Poe”. The maze followed Poe’s descent into madness, with a look at his dark creations coming to life and haunting him as he tried to drink away his sorrows. The house was masterfully done and perfectly took guests into the literary world by physically putting them in books.

The same year, Howl O Scream at Busch Gardens Tampa also released a Poe House called simply “Nevermore”. While the actors were full of energy, it lacked the same descent into madness that the Horror Nights house did, and simply evoked the spirit of the dark characters that Poe created. While the house was good, it was often misguided with characters just screaming “NEVERMORE!” or “BEWARE THE AMONTILLADO!” The house came back in 2012 with some decided renovations and looked surprisingly more at the madness of the author.

Poe is a rich subject as he created so many stories and dark images that just throw themselves at horror. It will be very interesting to see which way Knott’s goes with it, but it appears as if the haunt will go towards a modern telling of Poe’s tales, which is something that hasn’t been done in a major haunt before. Whatever the house ends up being, it’s going to be one hell of a dark, fun ride, and something that you won’t want to miss, especially if you’re a fan of Edgar Allan Poe.
