Roa’s Aviary at Aquatica San Antonio spreads its wings to take flight as it gets closer to Memorial Day Weekend opening date

Tomorrow begins the month of May, which means a lot of things. Summer is near, temperatures are beginning to rise across the nation, and lots of parks will be kicking off their summer season and beginning daily operation. May also has one particular holiday that’s pretty significant to the theme park industry: Memorial Day! Memorial Day Weekend pretty much marks the beginning of summer and is also the final three day weekend before school is officially out for the summer. This year, Memorial Day Weekend will hold big things for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment as a whole, including SeaWorld San Antonio and Aquatica San Antonio.

On Saturday, May 24th, Aquatica San Antonio at SeaWorld will be opening a brand new attraction that will bring guests closer than ever to animals. Roa’s Aviary will feature a walking path and their existing lazy river, Loggerhead Lane, will pass right through Roa’s Aviary, giving guests the options of walking or wading into the aviary. Roa’s Aviary will feature more than 300 feathered friends of various species. There will also be feeding opportunities for guests at an additional fee.

SeaWorld created Aquatica with the idea of connecting, caring, and celebrating animals. Aquatica San Antonio carries that idea right into Roa’s Aviary, bringing guests closer than ever to animals. You will be entering the bird’s home and they will be free-flight, which means they will be all around you and they’ll perch near you (or maybe even perch on you) or may fly by you. Aquatica San Antonio will also offer seating in the area for guests to sit and relax inside the aviary. It’s quite an amazing experience, actually.

So, with just a few weeks until Roa’s Aviary officially opens to the public, what’s left to do?

While it might look like there’s a lot left to do, in actuality, SeaWorld is probably nearly done with construction. In the first photo you can see that mostly all, if not all, of the netting is up, and they’re working on structures for the aviary. The last photo was taken roughly a week ago, so you can see that SeaWorld is working quickly to get Roa’s Aviary completed in time for the grand opening.

While there’s still a bit left to do, SeaWorld looks right on track with Roa’s Aviary.

We previewed the bird aviary at Discovery Cove here in Orlando back in November when the addition of Roa’s Aviary was announced, giving us a similar experience as to what Aquatica San Antonio will offer it’s guests.
