Universal Orlando has just confirmed, via the Universal Orlando Blog, that Fast & Furious will indeed be coming to Universal Studios Florida in 2017. The all new attraction will take guests on a high speed ride through an original storyline in the Fast & Furious Universe. The all new ride will thrill guests, but it will also make guests say goodbye to two long time attractions.
Say what you will about the Fast & Furious films, but there’s no mistaking, they are worldwide blockbusters. The last film alone, Furious 7 has climbed to the top of the All Time box office list, and sits at number five with over $1.5 billion dollars. The entire series has grossed almost $4 billion dollars, through seven films, with an eighth, and ninth on the way.
While the film has already seen the attraction treatment at Universal Studios Hollywood, don’t expect a complete retread. The new ride will take guests on an all new experience, and storyline that takes place in the Fast & Furious universe. The new ride will also be a stand alone attraction, where the Hollywood version is simply an add on to the Studio Tour.
The new attraction at Universal Orlando will feature an all new ride vehicle, and ride experience. From the looks of the concept art, we can also expect to see a huge new pre-show element, featuring the iconic cars from the film.
While the new attraction will open in 2017, the tight spaces at Universal Studios Florida means that something is going to have to close. On September 8th, Disaster will have it’s last shakedown. That ride opened in 2008, after replacing the original version, Earthquake: THE BIG ONE.
Also closing will be the Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue. That attraction will be closing later this year, but there’s no word on if that closure will be permanent. Rumors have the show returning at another venue, perhaps at the Fear Factor Live stage, after Halloween Horror Nights. No official word on that yet.
The attraction will open in 2017, which will be a massive year for Universal Orlando. The resort will be opening up their all new waterpark, Volcano Bay, which was just announced earlier this year. Next year, Universal Orlando will open the all new Skull Island: Reign of Kong, as well as the all new Sapphire Falls Resort.
