Unlike the bands on the Music Plaza Stage, the New Orleans bands will play every day of the event, and will perform in the French Quarter Courtyard.
While the concerts and music are fun, it’s the parade that gets things going. Every year the parade features 12 floats, with six of those being different every year. There are six “traditional” floats, and six that go with this year’s theme of “Party Animals”, which will take guests around the world to different animals in different climates and settings.
The floats, as always, are designed by Universal Orlando but built by Mardi Gras masters, Kern Studios. Kern Studios has designed Mardi Gras floats since 1947, and is one of the top parade float designers in the country. The parade will feature the six new floats, which boast animal designs from all over the world. The animals and designs will overflow from the floats, and into the streets as the performers dress to match. Of course, you’ll be able to catch beads by the fistful, as the parade drops tons of beads every night.
Food is also a massive part of the Mardi Gras fun, with several authentic Mardi Gras classics making their way to the festivities. This year, Universal promises old favorites as well as new tasty dishes, such as crab etouffe, crawfish, and frog legs. Of course there’s also likely to be staples like muffulettas, beignets, jambalaya and more.
The fun kicks off on February 9th, and runs every day until April 4th. All concerts are included with theme park admission, and Florida Residents can get a massive discount with a 2-park, 3-day ticket for just $159 with discount codes on specially marked Coke products. New annual passholders can also get up to six months free on any annual pass.
