After being closed for five months for a huge refurbishment, Big Thunder Mountain at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom has finally reopened! The mine train roller coaster had extensive track work and queue refurbishments. As of right now the ride is in “soft openings” and has been since Saturday, it will be fully open for daily operation starting Monday May 28th.

The track is much smoother in a lot of places, and all of the effects are working. The whole ride has seen a bit of a clean up and the queue looks to be in top shape. There is a huge section walled off from the queue, which we expect will have some new interactive elements added to it real soon.
While we’re not sure, it looks like this area is going to house some kind of interactive space in the future. The majority of new additions come by ways of safety features and devices such as rails and lights.
