While flood waters are threatening guest areas, precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of workers and animals at Zoo America. In 2011 flood waters caused by Tropical Storm Lee rushed in causing not only wide spread flooding, but also danger to the animals.
The story made national news when the zoo was caught off guard, and two bison were caught by flood waters in mere minutes. The bison were euthanized while the flood waters rushed in.
As a precaution, the zoo was closed earlier today. More rain is predicted for the area.
