Just when we thought everything for the Halloween Season had been announced, Cedar Fair has one more trick up their sleeves. FearVR is an all new virtual reality experience powered by Oculus where you as a guest get strapped into a wheel chair and tossed into a virtual world of disturbing imagery as sights, sounds and smells take over. The new experience is being brought together by a new partnership with Cedar Fair, and Hollow Studios.
The all new experience is called FearVR: 5150. It will be coming to Canada’s Wonderland, California’s Great America and of course…Knott’s Scary Farm. The experience will combine a live set with a VR Experience. The new piece was directed by Ted Dougherty, who for nearly 20-years has worked as an expert in both the haunted attraction and Halloween theme park industries as a writer, actor, producer and creative director.
The experience will take you into the world of Meadowbrook Institute, a mysterious facility where you are taken in. Meadowbrook has a mysterious resident, named Katie. Katie has…powers. She’s been pretty dangerous up to this point, and she’s been subdued, for the most part. Until now. Katie has escaped, and you’re caught in the middle as you’re strapped to a wheelchair and your senses assaulted. FearVR: 5150 will combine the terror of virtual reality, with the claustrophobia of being in a real world situation, as you are immersed into a 4D set that will come to life around you with smells, and other effects. The 4D and thematic elements were all designed by Knott’s Berry Farm’s Jon Cooke and produced by technicians and artists from Knott’s Berry Farm.
Disturbingly vivid sights and sounds invade all of your senses. Encounter the darkness that has taken over the medical staff during your fully immersive hospital stay. Patients beware; it is easier to check in than out.
A limited number of reservations are provided on a first-come basis when Knott’s Scary Farm opens each night. Advance reservations are not available. Visit the ticket kiosk located outside The Dead of Winter: Revenge of the Wendigo maze in the Boardwalk area to make a reservation.
FearVR: 5150 will require an additional up-charge experience that is NOT included with Frightlane or Skeleton Key offerings. Will you be checking out FearVR: 5150 when you visit the haunts this year?
