It’s official! Star Wars Episode VIII will be The Last Jedi! The news came across from Lucasfilm this morning in an official statement.
We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.
The name of the movie has been something of contention, and we honestly didn’t think we would hear the name until at least Star Wars Celebration in Orlando this April.
The film opens December 15th, and will bring back Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley as Rey and what could be the last performance of Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa.
What do you think of the new title? Personally it has a very Empire Strikes Back feel to it, and we just get the feeling that someone else will not make it out alive. The big question is…who is the Last Jedi? While the opening crawl of The Force Awakens clearly states that Luke is the Last Jedi…does he remain the last? Rey showed a little Jedi prowess. Could we see the tide turn on Luke, and up with Rey as the last? Whatever the case is, the feel of the title is very dark, right down to the red lettering.
We can’t wait until December to find out.
