Galactic Nights reveals new details for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney

Star Wars is just about everywhere right now. In 2019, it’s going to be everywhere else, as Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios readies Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to open. It will be an all new land that will tell your stories, as you venture onto the remote planet of Batuu.

On Sunday night, Disney’s Galactic Nights held a panel to give a few more behind the scenes details of the new land. It was headed by Imagineers working on the project, which is the single largest project that they’ve worked on.

The panel started off with an aerial shot of the land, as it’s under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The panel talked about everything that goes into it, including all the experts from around the world, and how it all started in the same place that Star Wars films did, in Pinewood Studios.

One of the new reveals was an all new character, well, new to Disney. Nien Nunb will be involved in Galaxy’s Edge. He’s going to be a part of the new land, though we don’t know what just yet.

There are two ships that you will be able to enter in Galaxy’s Edge. The first will be The Millennium Falcon. Of course, we already know that you’ll get to actually pilot the fastest hunk of junk in the Galaxy. There will also be a Resistance Transport that will take you right into the action, as you walk into one of the new attractions. You’ll also see full scale AT-AT Walkers in the ride, as you face off against the First Order.

In the actual village, there will be a “Creature Stall” where you can see living, moving creatures, and even take one home with you, including a Lothcat.

Everything in Star Wars has a name and a purpose, and so it is with the village you visit on Batuu. The village you visit will be called the Black Spire Outpost, which got it’s name from the petrified trees. It has it’s roots in Smuggler lore, as the petrified trees in the forest lost their leaves, and became just spires. The smugglers would say “I’ll meet you at the spires”. The village sprouted from that. That gives us a little bit of a hint at the types of people we might find in Black Spire…Smugglers, outlaws, and maybe even some villainy.

Galaxy’s Edge opens in the Summer of 2019 at Disneyland in California, and in the Fall of 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
