Downtown Disney is going away…well, not really, but the name is and so is the way that guests will look at it in the future. Disney has announced that they will be giving Downtown Disney a huge new makeover, and theme. The all new Disney Springs is still a few years away, but work has been progressing over the past few months, which will include several new shops and restaurants. We take a walk around, and above the new construction to see just what’s happening.
While construction walls have gone up, they are adorned with concept art of what will be coming to the entertainment district. The area will receive new bridges to connect various different parts of the area, making the walk seem a little less like a death march. Many of the shops and restaurants that remain will get a makeover as well.
From Characters in Flight, we can see the same area from the sky. Most of the area has the same look, with tons of dirt and base work being done. In some areas crews are working around the clock, but for the most part, crews are Monday through Saturday during business hours.
One new venue that will come online very soon is the all new Starbucks. Starbucks is popping up everywhere in the theme park world, with several just opening up at other locations in the Walt Disney World Resort. There was also a Starbucks that opened recently at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure, and will be a huge new Starbucks at CityWalk in the coming months.
From the air we can get a very good look at the all new parking garage that is being built at Downtown Disney. While the construction makes parking more of a nightmare than it has been, the hopes are that the new parking garage will help alleviate some of the parking issues that have been plaguing the area for many years.

While construction has taken over much of the Downtown Disney area, several spots are still open during construction, and more will be open as soon as they are ready. Guests can still play in the Lego store, as well as see all the models around the area. Of course several restaurants are still open, though places like Planet Hollywood have had their entrances changed around during construction.
Disney Springs is expected to nearly double the amount of dining, and shopping experiences in the area. The area will be much like the New Fantasyland area at Magic Kingdom, opening in phases. Construction began in 2013, and is expected to be fully completed by 2016.
