For the past few weeks King’s Island has been teasing something new coming to the park. It’s to be huge, the biggest of it’s kind. Make no bones about it.
The only thing we knew was that it was going to be themed to Dinosaurs. Many had speculated everything from a new coaster to a water ride. While the official announcement won’t be made until 2 p.m. today, we have learned what will be stomping into the park this season along with the all new 301 foot tall Windseeker.
*Update!
Kings Island will be bringing “Dinosaurs Alive” to the park May 26th. It will be the worlds largest animatronic dinosaur park with 56 animatronic dinos with movement and sound, and over 60 dinos in total. The highlight of the attraction is the Ruyang Yellow River dinosaur, which measures an incredible 72 feet long, 12 feet wide and 30 feet high, making it the world’s largest animatronic dinosaur.
Of course the park will also feature the normal favorites like T-Rex, Velociraptor and Triceratops.
The attraction is not included with park admission. It will be an additional $5 dollars to experience Dinosaurs Alive. Park admission is required to visit Dinosaurs Alive.
My thoughts, it shows that Kings Island is trying to reach out for the family demographic that it pushed away by putting in so many coasters. The chain has Cedar Point just up the road, so why put in more coasters now? However, with this thinking (let’s do something family for people who don’t like coasters) somehow doesn’t click with the coaster friendly park. It’s built a name for itself with the coasters, and with a big tease like this, many park fans were sure that they were going to announce another coaster (since the last coaster the park received was 2009’s Diamondback). This attraction seems very iffy for the park, and has a very temporary feel to it, like something you would see at a childrens museum for a limited time. However, it will be interesting to see how this bodes with the coaster nerds and thrill junkies. It may be a surprise hit, and besides it is an all new attraction for 2011.
