Walt Disney World is gearing up to start construction on an all new Gondola system that will connect several hotels and theme parks.
The Orlando Sentinel has uncovered documents that show Reedy Creek has drawn up plans for the new system. Reedy Creek is the improvement district controlled by Disney. The new plans confirm what have been rumored for months.
The new system is rumored to be built by Doppelmayr, who specializes in Gondola and lift systems for various resorts. The company also has a zoo in Austria.
The concerns over weather being a factor are a thing of the past, as modern cable based systems are enclosed and shielded. Lightning isn’t that big of a threat anymore, and winds would have to be over 40 mph before the gondolas need to be shut down.
The plans confirm that the new line will have six stations with three lines, and will travel between Caribbean Beach Resort, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the lake area between Art of Animation and Pop Century resorts.
The new system will be a much higher capacity than the bus system currently in place, and less costly than a new monorail system.
