The Dales continue to duel, and Intimidator is STILL smoking Intimidator 305! Intimidator 305 recently completed the track this week, while trains for Intimidator arrived on site. How exciting is that?! I won’t lie to you, I’m really excited about both rides, but for different reasons.
Everyone keeps asking which ride is going to be better? I say “no contest”! Intimidator is a Bolliger and Mabillard. Intimidator 305 is an Intamin AG. Big difference!
Intimidator
Carowinds has had the edge over i305 since the beginning. North and South Carolina typically have cold weather, but are a lot less likely to see snow. Intimidator didn’t see snow, and the weather wasn’t as wet, permitting the contractors to build their hearts out. Nasty weather will absolutely take it’s toll on construction.
I’m really excited about Intimidator because it’s closer and within driving distance. While Carowinds is between an eight to ten hour drive for me, Virginia is half a day away. Intimidator is also a B&M, the Cadillac of coasters. While Intimidator won’t meet the three-hundred foot mark, it will pack a glass smooth ride! Intamins tend to be a little rougher after a few years, but B&Ms, as long as they’re well taken care of could possibly last forever.
What about the Nascar theme? I’ll admit, I don’t like Nascar at all. I can’t sit infront of the television for hours on end watching cars drive around in a giant circle. That just doesn’t excite me. I realize that going out to the race is probably ten times more exciting, but I will always be a fan of Top Fuel Dragsters. I’m down for a Nascar theme!

Intimidator 305
Kings Dominion has had a hard time with the weather this winter. I once lived in Virginia and I can say that wet winters aren’t common. The Richmond area might see snow every year, but it’s not supposed to rain all the time! It rained constantly for days upon days, making the construction site a giant pool of mud. Then came snow. Weather takes it’s toll on construction progress, and Intimidator 305 is proof. Intimidator’s track was finished late 2009, while i305 JUST finished it’s track this week. Trains will be arriving soon, I hope. Let the testing begin!
I’m excited about Intimidator 305 because of it’s height. Top Thrill Dragster is the tallest coaster I’ve been on, and nothing will compare (except maybe Kingda Ka). Intimidator 305 is pretty much going to be a Millennium Force all over again for me. I love that ride! Millennium Force broke the 300-foot mark for me. 305 feet is intimidating, but I think it’s going to be a great ride. When I travel to Virginia, it will be a long haul, but something worth looking forward to: Another coaster credit! 🙂
Again with the Nascar theme. I’m down for it. This will be different from Intimidator, I hope!
Which of the Intimidators do you look forward to most?
