American Idol Experience at Walt Disney World gets earlier closing date

Earlier this summer,  Walt Disney World announced that the American Idol Experience at Dsiney’s Hollywood Studios would be closing in early 2015. No reason was given, no replacment was announced. Now, The Orlando Sentinel reports that the closing would be bumped to this year. Even more, the attraction will be closing this month.

For fans of The American Idol Experience, the last day to enjoy the attraction will be August 30th. The attraction will be closing it’s doors forever, which is just over three months earlier than anticipated. The attraction made it’s debut in 2009, and would give each days winners the chance to compete in the evening for a shot at a “Fastpass” of sorts to the American Idol Auditions.

Much like the TV show, The American Idol Experience has lost it’s popularity. There is no official word on what exactly will be going into the space, but it’s rumored that the area will be closed off to make way for an all new Star Wars Land. That rumor, along with the rumored closure of The Indiana Jones stuntshow, has been further fueled by the earlier closing date.

It’s also worth noting that Disney has recently extended their Frozen Summer celebration, which includes a sing along, daily parade, and fireworks. It’s been suggested that the Sing along could move to The American Idol Experience building until the end of the run, which is much larger than it’s current location. Frozen is the hottest thing in the Disney line up right now, with rumors swirling around a much larger attraction taking over Epcot’s Maelstrom attraction, which is also rumored to close at the end of September.
