Dollywood has announced today the Lightning Rod roller coaster will be ready for the opening day of the 2024 season! “Lightning Rod returns to racing on opening weekend for the 2024 season! Beginning on Passholder Preview Day, Lightning Rod will be open and more reliable for guests to consistently enjoy all season long.”
Dollywood is open to the public Saturday, March 9, 2024 and passholder preview day is Friday, March 8, 10:00 am – 8:00 pm.
Last year, it was announced that the roller coaster would be outfitted with new trains and a 13mph high-speed lift hill, one of the fastest of its kind. Previously, Lightning Rod at Dollywood was known for launching riders from 0mph to 45mph more than 20 stories up its lift hill to one of the ride’s first airtime moments, but the attraction was known to have extended periods of downtime since its opening in 2016. This change will help the notoriously closed roller coaster stay open more frequently.
